Coffee Catch-Up # 29

If we were having coffee I would tell you about my coffee last Sunday. I was so surprised to see it presented in such a beautiful way. I couldn’t keep my hands off the smooth exquisite timber. The only thing missing to make it perfect was a small handmade cookie or piece of shortbread.

If we were having coffee I would ask if you picked the winner of the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s I had a knack of picking the winner every year. As I’ve gotten older, I quickly look at the form guide, decide it’s too hard and hope my sweeps win. Rarely. This year there weren’t even any sweeps at my work place. But on the bright side my daughter won and bought us pizza.

If we were having coffee I would tell you I saw my first Santa last weekend and you’ll never guess where. Some enterprising person has started a business called Sandy Claus. You guessed it, Santa photos at the beach. He had a crowd around him 8 weeks out from Christmas.

Go Sandy Claus. Only in Australia.

If we were having coffee I would tell you how exciting it was to hear that Australia has had 2 days of 0 local coronavirus transmissions this week. This is the first time since the start of the virus and a good sign that life is slowly returning to normal.

If we were having coffee I would tell you about the surprise I found buying fruit and vegetables this week. The world’s smallest tomatoes. They are so cute. And they taste like a flavour bubble bursting in your mouth.

If we were having coffee I would ask you what has been happening in your world?

  1. Sandy Claus, what a hoot! I’m not particularly fond of the Funny Fat Man in Red Suit, because of his attachment to the concept of greed. But this is funny. Here, in Kentucky, USA, the mall is doing virtual photos with Santa. That is, you stand beside a screen with a picture of Santa on it. Personally, we keep Christmas to celebrate the one that was born to save us all. Covid: This week has been difficult. Our threat risk was raised again to red, which means no indoor dining/activities, no gatherings either formal or informal (no church, no family get-to-gathers. Basicly back to lockdown. Here, we go out and get things when they’re open because it fluctuates so much. Locally, my state, they had a day with over 2700 new cases… within the week of when a certain politician had one of his “rallies” where hundreds of people packed in, most without masks. Sorry, it’s a sore spot with me. I’ve lost over 250 family and friends to this so far. Change the subject, girl. I’ve seen small tomato’s (cherry size) but those look like they’re the size of blackberries. Wow! I love your description of flavor. I wouldn’t dare with my allergy, but I do hear they’re delish. I love that wooden coffee holder, too. I have – had – a friend who did woodworking from fallen trees. It looks like something he would have created. I love seeing the grains and color variations in the wood. So, it sounds like you’ve had a good week. I’m glad to hear that. We all need good news in these days. 🙂

    • Thanks for stopping by I can’t even image what it is like in your country at present. Here’s hoping that things will change in the next few months. Good news is always a good thing.

      • Last night, we watched HISTORY in the making. My head is still spinning and I’m teary eyed. I never thought that there would ever be a woman in the white house… and now, there is. Awestruck might be a better word for it.

  2. You have to love when someone instead of serving up a simple cup of coffee also delivers up a cool work of art. Question: do they not have these tiny tomatoes much in Melbourne? Here in California, we have them almost year round and I can eat them like candy and now that you’ve put them on my mind, I may need to take a break and go have a handful. There’s not a lot I like about California these days, but the constant variety of fresh veggies is certainly one. Thanks for stopping by.

    • I’m from Newcastle, New South Wales and I have never seen these teeny tiny tomatoes before. We have cherry tomatoes but these are about a quarter of the size of a cherry tomato. I too love great variety in fresh fruit and veggies. We are going into summer which brings out all the tropical varies. Mango being my favourite.
