Home

What is home?

For many people it is where they live, however as this is regularly changing I believe the consistent factor is yourself. For me, home is a place of security and I am the only person who can be responsible for my security. I create my security in me, which is why I agree with the following quote on Twitter. Home is myself.

When I think about the factors that make home myself—I think of my personal values.

Harmony

Open-mindedness

Mindful motivation

Expressiveness

As home is myself when life gets tough I  take a few moments, recentre myself wherever I am around the world and recharge. I hold the power and can go home, wherever and whenever, I choose. It’s a powerful skill—going home for me doesn’t need to wait for my physical return to my residential address in Australia.

Joy Not Jealousy

We all get jealous from time to time — what wakes the green-eyed monster for you?

Jealousy is not an emotion I bother with. I find it draining and it doesn’t help me to follow my dreams or bring me any joy. If I find some thing on my journey I am interested in, I look into whether it really is something that I want long-term and if the answer is yes, I figure out what I have to do to get it. This is where the fun starts. Is it a goal I really want or does it just look  good on someone else?  This process has taught me a lot about myself. I now realise if I am not prepared to put the effort in—the goal is not important to me.

Poetry is a new skill I am learning as I develop my blogging skills and the following limerick sums it up for me.

What is the point in being jealous

It doesn’t make us nice gals or fellas

Instead I like to set a goal

Achieve my desire and empower my soul

The secret to learning what is precious

Mentoring

Have you ever had a mentor? What was the greatest lesson you learned from him or her?

Make the most of every opportunity—the good, the bad and the ugly

Educate yourself and experiment

Nobody is an instant expert

Trial and error allows you to understand the process

Open up and attempt new things

Respect everyone and the job they do

Instructions need to be understood—keep asking for clarification until you get them

Nutrition, nurture and nature—access them daily

Goal setting is essential—not an optional extra

Poetry 101 Rehab: End

This weeks theme is END. I struggled a little to picture in my head what the end looked like which made writing poetry more of a challenge.

Limerick

I wondered around the bend

Looking for my friend

I sought him here I sought him there

Finally finding him in the end.

Haiku

The end is coming

Thank goodness! It was no easy task

Let’s celebrate now

Necessary

There are 26 letters in the English language, and we need every single one of them. Want proof? Choose a letter and write a blog post without using it. (Feeling really brave? Make it a vowel!)

Today I have written my first concrete poem. It was a challenge to get started but worked in the end. I think the title of the poem speaks for itself. Without the letter the title of this blog is Inspriring Ax—to easy to be wrongly used and interpreted.

One day                                                   there was a

letter of the                                         alphabet that

could not be                                  spoken. She was

special. Living                                     in the centre.

Lots of                       words                               were

never                           able                                to be

re                                  cog                                nised

with                                                                       out

her.                                                                     After

all                                                                       adult

lady                                                                   of the

group                                                             doesn’t

sound                                                                 okay.

Our Journey

Today’s assignment in Writing 201 Poetry is to write a limerick based around the theme of a journey. I chose a description of our failed attempt at a white Christmas last year.

White Christmas

This year we wanted to grow

Excited by the opportunity to show

What we had seen

But alas it was green

So we couldn’t experience the snow

Water

Today I begin Writing 201, which over the next two weeks will teach me how to write poetry. This certainly will take me out of my comfort zone—but you have to be in it to win it. Here is my first attempt at Haiku, a Japanese poem of three lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second 7 syllables and the last line 5 syllables again.

As it is my first poem since the third grade I am pleased with my baseline—looking forward to see how many new tricks this old dog can learn.

Water

I am a swimmer

Who cannot find any water

So said my daughter
