Poetry 101 Rehab: Thaw

This week’s poetry challenge theme is THAW. In Australia this word doesn’t have the same power it holds in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere.

Using anaphora

I like the snow

I like the ice

To work yesterday I couldn’t go

And shoveling is such a chore

So today I like the thaw

 

Haiku

Come in and thaw out

Love will defeat the cold

Together we’ll grow old

  1. I like your poetry and your posts of other things. I am especially fascinated by your little stories of your time in Canada, in and around Quebec, ie. the Holy Door, skating on the Rideau or lack thereof when you were there. I’ve been to the places you talk about so it is interesting to read of a perspective from someone from another country. Keep up the great work. I do read but haven’t been doing much writing myself.

    • Thank you. It is interesting how we all see things differently. We loved our time in Canada and even though in many ways Canadians are similar to Australians we are also very different. I now understand the impact of the winters on daily life.
