Christmas Calendar # 5

When I was much younger I sailed with my father. He had sailed for Australia so knew a lot about how to manage the winds. I remember it fascinated me the difference a slight adjustment would make to give you an edge. My other memory of this time was that we never sailed in a westerly as they were too changeable and could easily do damage to the boat.

Like most advent calendars, you are often forced to eat more than one chocolate a day. For me, my catch-up Christmas calendars are due to a technical delay. But back on track, I am putting my dreams into actions. I am currently using this special quote from Walt Disney to plan my life changes for 2021. What do you want to change next year?

I believe that it isn’t always the person with the most skills who succeeds at a task, in life or in their chosen career. It is often the person who keeps going despite the obstacles. They never give up. Instead of saying something can’t be done, they just look for another way when their previous plan fails. Some of the world’s best companies or careers are built with this level of determination. Think Disney, Apple and Thomas Edison.

I love this quote I first heard in the movie ” The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.” I thought it was a quote from the movie. However, it’s not. It belongs to John Lennon. I remind myself of these wise words when going through difficult or frustrating times. It reminds me to be patient.

Back in 2016 I began what I hoped would be a tradition on Inspiring Max – my Christmas Calendar. A month of positive quotes. One for each day in the lead up to Christmas. My version of our family’s other Christmas tradition, chocolate advent calendars.

As we end this very difficult year let’s think about how we want 2021 to be. My plan is for it to involve more regular blogging and writing. What do you want to create in your future?

Today we have decided to take this quote about not cleaning up mess seriously. As we near the close of Christmas day in Australia, our lounge room is still littered with presents and shredded paper, which is the remnants of what turned into a ‘snow fight’ during the opening of one of my presents this morning. Even looking at the mess brings a smile to my face remember the fun my husband, daughter and I had throwing shredded paper over each other this morning. A classic Christmas moment that couldn’t ever be planned or choreographed.

Personally I love Christmas. But as we get nearer to the day itself, let’s consider why we put all the effort in to make our Christmas day special. I agree, it’s love. Let’s face it, if we didn’t love the people we spend Christmas day with, we wouldn’t be bothered putting in the time and effort to create our Christmas every year.

I like to think of mistakes as miss hits. At least in the attempt to do whatever it is I am aiming to do I learnt something. If I wait till I am sure I’ll get it right I’d never start anything. So, join the club and one day you might actually hit the target by mistake and them the challenge is to work out how to do it again .
